Modified bitumen is an asphalt-based, rolled-roofing process. In this technique, the synthetic rubber modifier Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS) is added to the asphalt which covers the roofing layers, giving the roof rubber-like properties.
The Benefits of SBS Modified Bitumen Roofs
- Durable and thick; an excellent option for high-traffic areas
- A good choice for roofs that tend to "pond," or hold a large amount of water for sustained periods
- A high-quality roofing product that eliminates roof leakage
- Can be aluminum coated for increased energy efficiency
- SBS provides the roof with improved resistance to aging and weathering
Bert Dorr installs CertainTeed Flintlastic® SA roofing, a self-adhering system which is:
- An excellent option for smaller areas with few obstructions
- Cold-applied – no fire, chemicals, or fumes are involved in the installation process
- Available in a variety of colors, making it ideal for any highly visible low-slope roof (both commercial and residential)
